Fancy Diapers are all in the eye of the
beholder, aren't they?

When I was using diapers for my first baby, it was a mixture of the old style diaper that you had to fold to the right size for your baby and the new fangled ones that were prefolded and came in sizes like "Newborn", "3-6 Months" etc. I thought those Prefolded diapers were Fancy Diapers. NO folding!

Rubber pants.............Hmmmmmm..... Yes, it was nice to be able to let my babies sit on the couch and not worry about them ruining it. But did you know that rubber pants leaked? A LOT! It's a long and messy story, but the bottom line is that, even though the diapers of thirty years ago seemed like fancy diapers to me - today they are considered archaic! And as a grandmother of 11 (5 in diapers), I can vouch for the differences!

Since my day, Fancy diapers have become even more fancy. Those leaky, sagging, masses of cloth with unbreathable rubber outers have been replaced with cute, snugly fitting masterpeices with water resistant outer shells. Whether it be a pocket diaper or an all-in-one diaper, you just can't beat today's options when it comes to cloth diapers.

Fancy cloth diapers cut down on diaper rash, because the moisture is wicked away into an inner lining, stuffing, or batting. (even more so with some fantastic options in organic cloth diapers as well!) With the Pocket Diaper, you can fill them with one layer for daytime, or two or more for nighttime or just those heavy wetters. Fancy diapers have colors never imagined 30, 20 or even 10 years ago! I love them! It was basic white or unbleached "dingy white" for my children, but my grandchildren get colors like Purple, Melon, Butternut, Moonbeam and Zinnia.

There are over 3.4 million tons of disposable diapers added to our landfills each and every year. These diapers cost the average family approximately $3000 PER BABY in diapers. While the initial investment for "fancy diapers" is higher, the total cost for the diaper years of one baby is only about $600 - and they can be used for the next baby as well, making the diaper cost for baby #2 next to nothing.
